Google Desktop 2 Updated and out of beta

Yesterday, November 3, 2005, Google finally took the big step of releasing Google Desktop 2 out of it's beta stage. The program was also updated and includes new options and capabilities.

New features added:

Sidebar's new Google Maps panel: This has all the full functions of the regular service Google Maps plus the added function of finding new locations relevant to the web pages and emails you're reading and showing them in your maps panel.

Improved script support making it easier for home brewed side panels.

3rd Party panels: A bunch of new 3rd party panels that can be found here.
Examples: GDTunes, which cycles through your iTunes collection (and even shows album covers), dictionary, Winamp and an American Express panel to track and view credit card transactions in real time.

JavaScript: developers can now use simple JavaScript to write plug-ins for Google Desktop 2

Google Desktop for Enterprise: enhanced administration, integration and security features
