Google may buy online photo service that recognizes human faces

Every have a problem distinguishing between identical twins or members of the same family? Google may soon be able to help you with that.

The rumor is that Google may be looking to ante up to buy a new breakthrough photo recognition service. The company named Riya is an online photo service. What makes this photo service unique from the rest out there is that it has the abilities to recognize human faces, as well as match them with names.

The CEO of the company, Munjal Shah was recognized and nominated as one of the Top 10 "Up and Comers" by business week in 2001. Many say that this move is the result of a counter attack of rival Yahoo's acquisition of Flickr which uses artificial intelligence and face-recognition technology.
